Akonnect started with a complaint we heard in every department: the work was fine, the systems were the problem. Twelve platforms, twelve passwords, twelve versions of the same student record. We built a central hub instead.
A central hub, not another tool to log into
Akonnect is a single access layer over the platforms, tools, services and publications an academic institution already runs. Research administration, teaching, finance, membership, events and journal production each keep their own depth. What changes is the way people reach them.
One login authenticates a person once. Role based access then decides what that person can see in every connected platform, using the role your directory already holds. A doctoral candidate who becomes a teaching assistant gains a cohort view the moment the role changes, and nobody files a ticket to make it happen.
The result is fewer credentials to manage, fewer duplicate records to reconcile, and one unified dashboard where the state of the institution is legible without an export.

A rollout in five steps, none of them a rebuild
You keep the systems that work. We connect them, map the roles, and hand the keys to your own administrators. Most institutions reach single sign-on for their first three platforms inside six weeks.
Inventory what you actually run
We list every platform, tool, service and subscription in use, including the two spreadsheets nobody admits to. Shadow systems are the reason centralized access usually fails, so they go on the list first.
Agree the role model
Researcher, educator, student, reviewer, bursar, registrar, administrator. We write down what each one may see and who may change that, before a single connection is made.
Connect identity, then the first three platforms
Akonnect authenticates against your existing directory over SAML 2.0 or OIDC. We start with the three platforms your people open most, so the benefit lands early.
Pilot with one department
One faculty runs on multi-platform access while everyone else carries on as before. We watch the support queue, not the demo, to decide whether it is ready.
Hand over administration and measure
Your administrators own provisioning, roles and audit from the IT workspace. We review sign-in volume, failed access attempts and time-to-provision with you each quarter.

Every workspace is keyboard navigable and tested against WCAG 2.2 AA. Accessibility is part of the release checklist, not a remediation project.

Three departments, three reasons it stuck
Our reviewers used to hold four accounts between the journal, the events portal and the research registry. Now they hold one, and the editorial board stopped losing a week per issue to access problems.
